“I was very excited to have my sons participate in this camp. I love the process they emphasize - identify goals, generate ideas, design, and then continue to create, test, evaluate, redesign until you are ready to share. I really wanted my kids to learn this process because often times when they build creations at home, if it isn't perfect, they get discouraged. Galileo teaches them to be determined and test their creations, thinking critically about how to improve them. It's unlikely they would experience this process in regular school because teachers can't afford to take this much time building projects all day. That's why I love having Galileo available during the summer, so my kids can continue to learn and expand their mind in a fun environment.
I really like the actual curriculum too. Wow, little 5-year olds were building castles they could go inside with a movable drawbridge! My son loved his dump truck which used a pneumatic system to move the arm up and down. And my other son built a marble run that had a trigger to turn on a light when the marble activated it. Being able to build these creations not only teaches the kids how things work, but also gives them the confidence to believe that they can also imagine their own inventions.
The director and teachers were great! I recommend this camp to anyone who wants to encourage their kids to be innovators.”
